Flowers for Elizabeth - Ligaya Siachongco **** Award Winner - 2nd Place Traditional Hand Quilted ** The 12 embroidery designs in this quilt were taken from the book "Embroidery Flowrs for Elizabeth" by Susan O'Connor and were inspired by the domestic embroidery that flourished during the reign of Queen Elizabeth of England (1558 - 1603). The Queen became well known as a keen needle woman and enjoyed gifts of beautiful embroidery. These 12 designs were created in her name. The embroidery on this quilt was done on cream linen fabric and cotton batik fabric as sashing, borders and backing It was hand quilted using polyester batting with cotton hand quilting thread. The 12 round embroideries were hand appliqued on batik blocks. The frame of the quilt is a fabric manipulation using covered cotton cord and machine shirred fabric. |
